Overview
We are seeking a Process Engineer with extensive hands-on expertise in Downstream chemicals catalytic processes to join the Downstream Operation Engineering Solutions Department (OESD).
OESD's technical team provides high-quality, multi-disciplinary support to GM operating facilities (Refineries, NGLF, and petrochemical plants) within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and globally.
Your primary role is to be responsible for the total catalyst and absorbents management of the process units, including advisory on catalyst selection, performance evaluation & optimization, benchmarking, cost optimization, field technical support and spent catalyst handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Review operations of process catalysts and absorbents by monitoring key performance indicators which include but not limited to product yields, deactivation rates, remaining lifecycle, etc. Issue performance and benchmarking reports highlighting any performance gaps and recommendations for optimization.
- Support process technology engineers onsite in resolving any catalysts and absorbents performance gaps and implementation of optimization initiatives.
- Be part of the Global Manufacturing technical team in providing technical advisory for catalyst and absorbents technical procurement package optimization, catalyst techno-economic evaluation, selection, and review of performance guarantees in accordance with established company procedures.
- Support and coordinate with other internal stakeholders, when necessary, on the requirements to conduct catalyst pilot testing activities.
- Act as pool manager for managing emergency catalyst exchanges between assets, catalyst regeneration, re-use, metal reclamation and spent catalyst monetization in general.
- Maintain database of Global Manufacturing catalysts and absorbents detailing the technology providers, quantity, next loading forecasts, etc.
- Develop the hydroprocessing catalyst cascading roadmap across multiple assets in Global Manufacturing to maximize usage of both fresh and regenerated catalysts.
- Provide field support to catalyst related activities when needed such as loading & unloading, regeneration & rejuvenation, pre-sulfiding & activation, process optimization, and troubleshooting, in collaboration with facility process engineers and other stakeholders.
- Manage precious metals used in catalysts, including leasing or reclamation processes, for wholly-owned assets and facilitate any metal pool synergy with Affiliates.
- Support the pilot testing or field demonstration of commercial catalysts and in-house developed catalysts in Saudi Aramco facilities in collaboration with R&D and other corporate technical entities.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Advanced degree is preferred but not required.
- A minimum of 17 years of total experience in chemical catalytic units (i.e., hydroprocessing, catalytic cracking, reforming, isomerization, etc) with practical experience in catalysts & absorbents selection, performance evaluation, optimization, troubleshooting, operation, regeneration, and catalyst handling.
- Exposure to various technology licensors (i.e., UOP, Axens, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience and proficiency in using process engineering simulation programs and tools
- Expertise in innovation and intellectual property development is a plus.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues

- Team and Resource Management: Lead and mentor the E-Powertrain launch team, manage staffing and resource needs, and ensure timely availability of materials and tools. Foster a collaborative environment focused on safety, quality, and productivity, and align team priorities with production goals.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track process progress and KPIs aligned with the e-Powertrain process strategy. Report productivity, quality performance, and risks to senior management and maintain reporting on product performance, budgets, and resource utilization.

The ideal candidate will lead a team responsible for achieving production KPIs, ensuring process capability, and driving continuous improvement across the GA shop.
Key Responsibilities- Process Handover and Validation
- Manage the successful transition of manufacturing processes from the Manufacturing Engineering team to manufacturing operations.
- Oversee the execution of process and product validation plans, including trial builds, line capability assessments, and quality assurance gates.
- Ensure all required documentation (control plans, work instructions, process parameters) is in place for handover readiness.
- Coordinate build audits, fit & finish reviews, and end-of-line testing to verify process stability.
- Team Leadership and Resource Management
- Lead and mentor a team of GA Process Engineers, Technicians, and Specialists.
- Define priorities and allocate resources across shifts and launch phases.
- Support development plans for engineering team members to build internal capability and technical depth.
- Process Engineering Excellence
- Ensure robust process design, including ergonomic reviews, torque studies, fastener validations, and safety compliance.
- Lead the implementation of process control systems, visual management, and error-proofing strategies.
- Own and update GA process documentation including PFMEAs, Control Plans, Standard Work, and Process Flow Diagrams.
- Quality and Performance KPIs
- Monitor and drive improvement in process-related to GA KPIs.
- Partner with the Quality team to resolve systemic quality issues and prevent recurrence.
- Support launch ramp-up and ongoing production by ensuring process stability and capability.
- Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause investigations for GA process failures using structured problem-solving tools (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D).
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops to improve process robustness and reduce variation.
- Drive CI initiatives through Kaizen events, process benchmarking, and lessons learned implementation.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Engineering, ME, Quality, Maintenance, Logistics, and Operations teams to ensure process compatibility with design intent and plant layout.
- Participate in launch readiness reviews and gate sign-offs with the Plant Launch Team.
- Provide GA process input for new vehicle programs during design-for-manufacturing (DFM) reviews.
- Proven experience with GA process validation, equipment handover, and launching new vehicle models.
- Strong knowledge of torque management, GA technologies, kitting/material presentation, and end-of-line systems.
- Hands-on experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, Layered Process Audits, and problem-solving tools.
- Proficiency in manufacturing software systems (MES, Torque Traceability, BI, CAD).
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
- Flexibility to support off-shift and weekend activities during launch and ramp-up phases.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in automotive GA process engineering or production leadership roles.
