Job Title: Equine Nurse

Job Objective:
To provide essential medical care and support for horses, assisting veterinarians with examinations, surgeries, and treatments. Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring recovery, and maintaining detailed medical records. The role requires a solid background in equine nursing, excellent handling skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team. • Provide nursing care to horses, including administering medications and treatments.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other procedures.
• Monitor the health and recovery of horses post-surgery.
• Maintain accurate medical records and update treatment plans.
• Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
• Educate horse owners on care and post-treatment instructions.

• Complete duties as requested by the direct line manager.

• Certification or degree in veterinary nursing or a related field.

• At least 1 year of previous experience in equine nursing or veterinary care.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

• Knowledge of equine anatomy and medical procedures.
• Ability to handle horses safely and calmly.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, dressing wounds, performing surgery, and setting bones.
2. Educate the public about diseases and infections that are transferable from animals to humans.
3. Promote the health and wellness of animals by advising company management about sanitation measures, feeding, and general care.
4. Record actions by documenting and updating forms, reports, animal records, and reporting diseases to public health officials.
5. Ensure compliance with veterinary procedures, ethics, policies, and relevant statutes.
6. Establish or carry out quarantine or testing procedures that combat the spread of diseases to humans or to other animals according to established government regulations.
7. Euthanise animals in situations they see fit, such as in the case of a terminal illness.
