Our newest opportunity is for a talented Technical Director to join our award-winning team based in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead and oversee the technical aspects of a large-scale high-rise construction project in Madinah. This role is crucial for ensuring that all technical operations, design, and implementation meet the highest standards and are delivered on time and within budget.
We envisage success in this role to include;
- Leading the technical team and coordinate with other departments such as planning, procurement, and construction to ensure smooth project execution.
- Overseeing the development, review, and approval of architectural and engineering designs to ensure compliance with the client's requirements, regulations, and industry standards.
- Monitoring and controling all technical aspects of the construction process, ensuring the quality of work meets project specifications and standards.
- Providing expert consultancy and technical advice to both the project team and clients, resolving any design or construction challenges.
- Identifying technical risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure the timely completion of the project with minimal disruptions.

Qualifications:

- Maintain contact and coordination with multiple external agencies involved in the translation of the Government's development mandate and master plan objectives into work plans through maintaining meaningful working relationships to facilitate a shared understanding.

- Master degree in Urban Planning and Urban Design, Architecture or closely related field.
- Minimum 18 years of progressive urban planning and design experience working on a variety of projects.
- Experience and engagement with clients in the Middle East is a must
- Experience in producing master plans, conceptual designs and illustrative layouts.
- Creative thinking and in depth understanding of current best practices.
- Thorough understanding of local statutes and planning rules and regulations.
- Ability to involve and represent wide-range and diverse interests in the development planning and design process and to reconcile conflicting demands.

- Proven ability for performing in a lead capacity on a project.
- Proficiency in various design software and 3D modeling tools.

WSP Middle East is seeking a highly experienced Technical Director to provide technical leadership for the delivery of a landmark project in Riyadh.
- Ensure that all technical aspects of the tower project (structural, MEP, façade, geotechnical, services, interiors, etc.) are designed and executed to the highest standard, meeting or exceeding client, regulatory, and industry benchmarks.
- Lead and mentor technical leads / discipline heads; ensure the technical team is well-coordinated, clear on roles & responsibilities, and capable of delivering optimal engineering solutions.
- Oversee design management from early stages (concept / schematic / detailed design) through to construction documentation; ensure strong constructability, coordination, integration, and value engineering, especially in early design iterations.
- Validate and critique technical deliverables: ensure accuracy, completeness, consistency, adherence to standards and best practices (e.g. structural loadings, wind, seismic, vertical transportation, façade performance, mechanical / electrical system integration).
- Collaborate closely with Project Director / Project Delivery teams to ensure that technical risks, opportunities, and trade-offs are understood, evaluated, and factored into project decisions (cost, schedule, quality).
- Drive innovation in materials, construction methods, digital tools (BIM, simulation, modelling), and design processes to enhance efficiency, reduce technical risk, improve sustainability outcomes.
- Maintain rigorous technical quality control and assurance processes; lead technical reviews, peer reviews, and ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations and approvals (Saudi & international as applicable).
Engage with clients, authorities, and external consultants on technical matters; act as primary technical point of contact; present technical solutions, mitigations, and design changes in a way that ensures stakeholder confidence.
Degree (or higher) in , Architecture, or equivalent; professional registration or chartered status preferred .
- 15+ years technical experience in building design, engineering, and construction supervision; experience specifically in high-rise
- Experience with Pre-contract design stages; value engineering; design governance; constructability reviews; Logistics & sequencing planning at early stages.
Prior experience with mixed-use high-rise developments combining residential, hospitality, and commercial uses in the same tower.
