Job Title: High Voltage (HV) Engineer – 230kV Substation Design
Location: Al Khobar – Saudi Arabia
Reporting To: Lead Electrical Engineer.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated HV Engineer to lead the complete design lifecycle of a 230kV substation. The role encompasses all engineering activities from specification development through to commissioning support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise and proactive coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
- Develop detailed technical specifications for the 230kV substation and associated systems.
- Lead the preparation of design documents, drawings, and calculations in compliance with project standards, Aramco, and Saudi Electricity Company requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure design integration and alignment with project objectives.
- Prepare material requisitions and technical bid evaluations for HV equipment and systems.
- Review vendor offers and ensure compliance with technical specifications and project requirements.
- Participate in vendor meetings and clarify technical queries during procurement stages.
- Monitor and follow up on vendor deliverables to ensure timely submission and quality compliance.
- Interface with the client for design approvals, technical clarifications, and progress updates.
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Resolve field issues and ensure alignment between design intent and site execution.
- Participate in start-up activities and ensure successful energization of the substation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering .
- Minimum 7 years of experience in HV substation design and execution, preferably in oil & gas or utility sectors.
- Proven experience with 230kV systems and related protection, control, and communication schemes.
- Strong understanding of international standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.) and utility specifications.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written) to confidently communicate with clients, and design teams.
- Proficiency in design tools and software (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, etc.) is a plus.

- Testing and Inspection: Oversee all testing activities related to HVDC systems, including design validation, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and functional performance tests. Ensure that all testing is carried out according to predefined procedures and specifications.
