Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Assesses the learning needs of nursing staff and collaborates with the Head Nurse Nursing Education to enhance staff knowledge on dealing with individuals at risk for developing ulcers or with existing ulceration based on clinical practice.
- Performs wound assessment, reassessment and management for all patients as per policy. This includes neonates, pediatric, geriatric, and the general population.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population being served.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of wound assessment and staging system.
- Establishes and updates standards of care, competencies, policies and procedures about wound care program to include patient care protocols and documentation tools.
- Provide training and support in the provision of best updated nursing practice on wound care.
- Assists the Head/ In-charge Nurses in identifying the need for change in current practice based on the available wound care materials and assists with the implementation of required changes based on needs and nursing care requirements in conjunction with HMG standards and guidelines.
- Monitors hospital acquired pressure rates and leads the team for conducting Pressure Ulcer Prevalence Survey at least quarterly.
- Consults other healthcare professionals/departments as appropriate to provide interdisciplinary approach specifically based on the patient’s needs.
- Revises plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluates overall plan for effectiveness.
- Monitors compliance with wound care policy.
- Participates in the education for and the evaluation of new products, equipment, technology and system processes to improve wound care management.
- Participates in relevant education programs, in-services and workshops to increase professional competency and meet personal needs and goals.
- Provides patient, family and staff education regarding wound management, prevention of pressure ulcers, support surfaces, dressing selection and other adjunct therapies.
- Provides basic wound care training and orientation to all newly hired nursing staff.
- Reports unsafe practice, professional incompetence, professional misconduct and incapacity or unfitness to practice of any health care team member through appropriate channels.
- Provides constructive feedback to members of the health care team in a timely manner.
- Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified staff learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning.
- Facilitates the implementation of new or revised policies and educational programs.
- Demonstrates professional and educational ethics related to medical practice and patient confidentiality.
- Assists in identifying patient/family education needs and participates in the development of patient/family education materials.
- Provide patient and family education as per the needs.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.

Provides total, direct nursing care to patients requiring advanced, skilled, or complex care. Completes specific critical care competencies as identified by supervisor. Sets up, monitors, and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients such as cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) machines, oxygen delivery devices, mechanical ventilators, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP). Analyzes, interprets, and records electronic displays, such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms from cardiac monitors, respirators, ventilators, etc. Assists clinicians with procedures such as Central line insertions, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and elective cardioversion. Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol and initiates ACLS protocols. Monitors patients for changes in status and indications of conditions such as sepsis or shock and institutes appropriate interventions. Prioritizes nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs and plan of care. Represents unit or department on committees, special interest groups, and task forces. Treats customers (guests, patients, nurses, physicians, and other employees) with courtesy, respect, and caring behaviors. Always answers a patient’s call light/bell even if it is not an assigned patient and always takes the initiative to assist the patient. Presents a positive image of JHAH through professional appearance and behavior. Maintains confidentiality by choosing the appropriate persons, time, and place for patient-related discussions. Immediately brings abnormal findings to the attention of the Charge Nurse. Supports unit culture of quality and safety. Assures patient comfort and dignity measures during transport, without exception. Frequently checks for and reads all communication/minutes. Precepts new hires and nursing interns and mentors nursing staff with identified needs. Assists clinicians with the more complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Performs procedures requiring advanced competency skills or training in the expanded nursing roles. - EVALUATION:
Acts as a resource to other staff members during the evaluation of complex patient care. Evaluates the progress of new hires, nursing interns, and other identified staff and gives input to the charge nurse, supervisor, and/or nursing intern coordinator. - PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
Participates in the planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care conferences and unit in-services. Evaluates patient care supplies/equipment and gives input to the charge nurse/supervisor. Serves as direct clinical resource in the development, review, revision, and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, standards of care, and applicable medical organization policies. Represents unit or department on committees, special interest groups, and task forces.
Education: 3 years International Diploma or Bachelor Degree.
Experience: 5 years minimum clinical nursing experience following licensure/registration in the country of origin, to include 2 years experience in Critical Care unit is required.
Certifications/Other requirements as applicable:
• Current licensure as a professional registered nurse.
• Completion of Critical Care Course or additional years' experience in lieu of formal course.
• Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic desirable.
