Responsibilities
  • Review and validate power supply and traction system drawings to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and international railway standards (EN 50122, EN 50163, IEC 61850).
  • Coordinate with design teams and suppliers to resolve any discrepancies or technical issues.
  • Ensure proper documentation and updates of power supply and distribution system layouts.
  • Oversee the installation and commissioning of power supply and traction 750V DC systems, including:
    • 750V DC Traction Power System (Third Rail or Overhead Conductor Rail)
    • Traction Power Substations (TPS) and associated Rectifier Units
    • Medium Voltage (MV) & Low Voltage (LV) Power Distribution
    • DC Switchgear, Protection Relays, and Energy Metering
    • Emergency Power Supply Systems (UPS, Generators)
    • Earthing, Bonding & Lightning Protection Systems
  • Ensure all work is executed according to approved plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with installation quality and system reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance to construction teams and resolve on-site power-related challenges.
  • Supervise the installation and integration of the traction power system with the monorail infrastructure.
  • Ensure correct power distribution and energy efficiency in compliance with railway traction requirements.
  • Develop and implement testing and validation procedures for substations, power supply systems, and traction equipment.
  • Conduct voltage, insulation resistance, load, and performance tests before energization.
  • Lead the commissioning phase to ensure the safe and stable operation of power supply and distribution.
  • Ensure seamless integration of traction power, substations, and auxiliary power systems with other monorail subsystems (signalling, OCC, SCADA, AFC, PSD).
  • Coordinate with train manufacturers, electrical contractors, and system integrators for a smooth energy distribution strategy.
  • Optimize power system reliability, redundancy, and regenerative braking compatibility.
  • Monitor and evaluate long-term performance, energy efficiency, and maintenance strategies for traction power.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in traction power supply, railway electrification, or power distribution.
  • Strong expertise in 750V DC traction systems, substations, rectifier units, and railway power supply design.

Job Purpose: To assist, oversee and direct the delivery progress of the dry utilities’ programs for distribution systems with a specific emphasis on renewable energy resources as required under the utility programs, within the infrastructure realm of the Red Sea Global (RSG) projects. The transmission & distribution systems include the power distribution and the cooling distribution network for the district cooling plants.

Plan and manage the scope of work for projects in the design and implementation phases of the BOOT/ PPP and the Design & Build projects and ensures that works are executed as agreed in terms of quality, standards, materials, schedule and cost in order to meet The Red Sea Utility Company’s (RSUC) and RSG business objectives and requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Contribution:
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the annual business plan, and target and implement the strategic agenda of the RSUC Technical Services function to deliver RSUC’s and RSG vision and mission.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans and functional roadmaps for the distribution of dry utility initiatives aligned to RSUC goals.
    • Ensure that the dry utilities distribution strategy is translated into operational business plans for the RSUC Technical Services function and monitor the performance and execution of those plans to achieve functional objectives and deliver the company’s strategy.
    • Provide direction to the dry utilities distribution team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
  2. Dry Utilities Technical Services (Distribution) – Responsibilities:
    • Lead & guide the distribution team to contribute towards design, construction, testing and commissioning projects within dry utilities.
    • Supervise the preparation of the employer requirements, tender documents, scope demarcation for the technical advisors, engineering consultant, independent engineers, design & build contractors, and the Public Private Partnership (PPP), and contribute to initiating the bidding process by providing relevant inputs specific to distribution of dry utilities.
    • Assist in managing the assessment of the technical bids specific to distribution of dry utilities and support in the selection and appointment of a suitable engineering consultants, technical advisory consultants, independent engineers, design & build contractors, and PPP consortia / project companies.
    • Lead & manage the engineering design and the development and delivery of the dry utility transmission & distribution systems including the power supply transmission & distribution systems and the associated cooling distribution network for district cooling plants.
    • Support in developing detailed delivery schedules where the technical services and engineering managers define design, construction, testing and commissioning phases road map and ensuring that time and cost are managed effectively and efficiently.
    • Support in reviewing the project design and ensure that the required technical details are obtained from the relevant functions to clarify technical aspects and materials used in the project and provide inputs specific to distribution of dry utilities to contribute towards cost planning.
    • Ensure the consultants and the contractors have obtained the requisite permits from the relevant authorities before the dry utility transmission & distribution systems plans are finalized, tenders are issued to bidders, and the contractors commenced construction works on site.
    • Ensure the progress of the engineering design and construction works to ensure the design and construction is being carried out as per the approved plans and in compliance with the contract requirements.
    • Assist in the decision of critical issues during the engineering design and the construction phases, verifying claims for extra work, and coordinating with the other RSUC and RSSG functions where necessary.
    • Monitoring the commissioning and testing including the 3rd party testing, startup test, trial run tests, performance tests, reliability tests, annual capacity tests and ensure that all major/ main systems and sub systems for the dry utilities are meeting the technical, functional specifications and the contractual requirements prior to issuing the acceptance certificates for the dry utilities transmission & distribution systems projects.
    • Ensure all documents including engineering and technical studies, engineering design reports, drawings and manuals, and operational & maintenance plans are obtained from consultants/ technical advisors, contractors, and PPP companies.
    • Manage the review of the Technical Advisors and the Independent Engineers reports and submittals.
    • Provide technical support to other RSUC functions including the Technology Utilities & Metering, Operations, New Developments and Commercial Services.
    • Review the progress of projects along with the cost management and the planning management teams, and monitor and control projects against budgeted costs, quality, and schedule to ensure that the project specifications are aligned with tender documents.
    • Manage the relationship with the consultants and subconsultants, plan upcoming works, oversee the quality of work, and recommend appropriate measures to ensure that project delivery date and technical requirements are met.
    • Manage the identification, assessment, and mitigation of different aspects of risks presented on the project to create preventative risk methods and avoid potential delays and added cost.
    • Contribute to the preparation of the functional budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.
  3. Leadership & People Management:
    • Manage the activities of the projects and the dry utility transmission & distribution systems include assets technical services team to ensure that all work is carried out efficiently in line with the strategic project management plans, policy, and procedures.
    • Assist in building and motivating a competent team by setting priorities and objectives, managing performances, and providing ongoing feedback and coaching to meet the functional challenges and goals.
    • Serve as a role model to ensure employees’ awareness and commitment to RSUC’s and RSG’s vision, mission, values, fundamentals, and corporate strategy to establish a highly engaged and motivated human resources and continuously improve performance.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Batchelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, industrial, chemical engineering, or related field.

  • Experience in KSA and GCC countries.

Responsibilities

  • Power system analysis of transmission and distribution projects.

  • Feasibility studies, master plans, despatch studies, renewable integration, grid code reviews.

  • Preparation of renewable generation connection schemes from distribution to utility scale generation, including determining techno-economic optimum amount of renewable generation.

  • Load flow study, fault level calculations, harmonic analysis, voltage stability and transient stability analysis on transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems, using DIgSILENT, PSS/E, PLEXOS, ETAP, CYME PSAF, ASPEN OneLiner, ASPEN database and IPSA+.

  • Review the updated model received from EPC based on FAT/SAT reports and ensure all the grid compliance requirements are met as agreed during the detail design stage.

  • Assist Client to incorporate equipment models provided by EPC contractor into the TRANSCO network PSSE & PSCAD models suitable for various planning studies (steady state and dynamics).

  • The power system studies review work shall briefly include, but not limited to the following:

    • Reactive power capability study

    • Grid impact study

    • Transient and dynamic stability studies

    • Insulation coordination study

    • Switching transient study

    • Faulted transient switching study

    • Transformer Energization study

    • AC/DC harmonics and flicker study

    • AC/DC harmonic filter sizing report

    • Harmonic impedance locus identification and analysis study

    • AC protection relay setting coordination study

    • Sub-synchronous resonance studies

    • All required ETC compliance studies




Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical / Power Systems Engineering.

  • Minimum 10-15 years of working experience with similar capacity.

  • Proficient with Power system study software like PSS Sincal, PSSE, PLS-CAD, Dig silent etc.

  • Must have experience in Power System Studies, Grid Impact studies, on Transmission and Distribution projects etc.

  • Having in-depth knowledge of software languages (Python/Java) to automate the processes will be an added advantage.

Job Description

WSP is looking for Principal Engineer - Power System Studies with over 10-15 years' experience of providing technical leadership to deliver the projects while meeting the contract requirements with respect to quality, time and budget. The incumbent will be providing overall technical leadership to the WSP clients in the region and will be acting as the single point of contact for all the middle east clients while also being involved in the business development activities.
**The key objectives of the roles are to:**
+ Power system analysis of transmission and distribution projects.
+ Feasibility studies, masterplans, despatch studies, renewable integration, grid code reviews
+ Preparation of Renewable generation connection schemes from distribution to utility scale generation including determining techno-economical optimum amount of renewable generation.
+ Load flow study, fault level calculations, harmonic analysis, voltage stability and transient stability analysis on transmission, distribution, and industrial power systems, using DIgSILENT, PSS/E, PLEXOS, ETAP, CYME PSAF, ASPEN OneLiner, ASPEN database and IPSA+.
+ Review all the Power System Studies technical submittals by EPC contractor / Developers in reference to Client's Electricity Transmission Code and International standards as applicable.
+ Review the Power system models developed by EPC contractor specific to each study.
+ Attend all the required meetings & address all the technical clarifications raised by EPC contractor / Developer.
+ Attend the FAT & SAT visits to ensure all the performance criteria are met related to grid compliance requirements. The test shall be conducted with RTDS or other similar tools.
+ Review the updated model received from EPC based on FAT/SAT reports and ensure all the grid compliance requirements are met as agreed during the detail design stage.
+ Assist Client to incorporate equipment models provided by EPC contractor into the TRANSCO network PSSE & PSCAD models suitable for various planning studies (steady state and dynamics).
+ The power system studies review work shall briefly include, but not limited to the following:
+ Reactive power capability study
+ Grid impact study
+ Transient and dynamic stability studies
+ Insulation co-ordination study
+ Switching transient study
+ Faulted transient switching study
+ Transformer Energization study
+ AC/DC harmonics and flicker study
+ AC/DC harmonic filter sizing report
+ Harmonic impedance locus identification and analysis study
+ AC protection relay setting coordination study
+ Sub-synchronous resonance studies
+ All required ETC compliance studies
**We'd love to hear from you if you have:**
+ Master's Degree in Electrical / Power systems Engineering.
+ Minimum 10-15 years of working experience with similar capacity.
+ Proficient with Power system study softwares like PSS Sincal, PSSE, PLS CAD, Dig silent etc.
+ Must have experience in Power System Studies, Grid Impact studies, on Transmission and Distribution projects etc.
+ Having indepth knowledge of software languages (Python/Java) to automate the processes will be an added advantage.
+ Incumbent is expected to have prior experience of working with electrical utilities like TRANSCO/SEC/ADDC having successfully delivered Power System Studies related projects.
+ People managing skill, with excellent written and verbal skills. Able to build excellent client relations through communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills

The Role

In this role, the Senior Manager, Power Systems Engineering will build and lead a team of engineers dedicated to delivering innovative Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERMS) solutions to customers. AspenTech’s DGM - DERMS product represents a leading-edge technology advancement in the energy industry, and this position plays a critical role in both customer-facing and internal product development and delivery efforts. This role will be responsible for ensuring the implemented DERMS solutions empower utilities to integrate Distributed Energy Resources into their grids in transformative and efficient ways. You will be required to have strong technical expertise and engineering leadership to support existing products and projects, while also contributing to the strategic direction of future product development. The Senior Manager will work closely with customers to ensure reliable system performance and exceptional satisfaction, while also collaborating with internal teams to enhance the advanced control capabilities of AspenTech’s DGM platform. Based in AspenTech’s Medina office, the successful applicant will contribute to project delivery, enable customer success, and drive product excellence in support of utility customers in the energy management industry.

Your Impact
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing engineering team focused on delivering advanced DERMS solutions for utility customers.
  • Serve as a key technical liaison between customers and internal product teams to ensure successful solution implementation and alignment with business needs.
  • Provide strategic engineering leadership to support current projects and support the evolution of AspenTech’s DGM-DERMS platform
  • Provide technical leadership and ownership of training and technical documentation to support training programs to foster continuous growth and technical excellence among engineers responsible for DERMS solution delivery.
  • Drive innovation by identifying and shaping future product development opportunities that enhance grid performance and DER integration.
  • Ensure reliable system performance and deliver exceptional customer satisfaction through ongoing technical support and engagement.
  • Contribute to project execution, customer enablement, and product management excellence from AspenTech’s Medina office.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of power systems, project engineering, or related technical project implementation experience required.
  • Ability and flexibility to travel up to 25% to domestic and international customer sites.
  • Strong utility technical background with the ability to apply knowledge spanning renewable and integration of renewable into the electric grid solutions required.
  • Practical understanding of DERs and integration of DERs back to grid, including operation, control, and optimization.
  • Understanding/knowledge of IEEE1547 and other DER standards and protocols: example: OpenADR, IEEE2030.5
  • Knowledge of Virtual Power Plants, DER aggregations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills; analytical and problem-solving skills; commitment to providing superior customer service; and ability to multi-task on several projects in a fast-paced environment are required.

The salary range for this role is $170,000.00 - $212,500.00. This range represents what we in good faith believe is the range possible for base compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on several factors. This range may be modified in the future. This role is also eligible for bonus or variable incentive pay. The Role

The increasing levels of automation and the integration of renewable energy resources are significantly impacting power distribution grids. By addressing challenges and leveraging opportunities, Distribution Management Systems (DMS) can play a crucial role in transforming the energy landscape towards a more sustainable and efficient future.

We are seeking a Power System Developer to contribute to the development of our industry-leading DMS suite, which assists distribution utilities in real-time monitoring, visualization, control, and optimization of distribution grids. As a member of an Agile development team, you will design and implement advanced applications that help our utility customers improve grid reliability and efficiency, and better integrate and leverage renewable energy sources.

Your Impact
  • Model and simulate steady-state and dynamic behavior of distribution system equipment such as transformers, cables/lines, conventional and renewable generators, and relays.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain various products within DMS, such as distribution power flow, distribution state estimation, fault restoration, etc.
  • Research, develop, and implement advanced optimization solutions, such as volt var optimization and optimal power flow, to control distributed energy resources (DER) and/or virtual power plants (VPP) in distribution.
  • Conduct activities following software development process including:
  • Participate in use case discussion and design discussion.
  • Create test procedures and perform new code testing.
  • Develop product documentation.
  • Perform technical code reviews.
What You'll Need
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mathematics or related technical field. PhD in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems Emphasis is preferred.
  • Understanding of power systems concepts in power distribution modeling and operation, distribution protection and coordination, DER integration and control.
  • Experience in areas of power flow calculation, state estimation, DER control and/or network optimization.
  • Experience with power systems simulation tools such as MATLAB, PSCAD and/or PSSE.
  • Programming experience using Matlab, Python, C/C++ and/or C#.
  • Experience in data analytics and artificial intelligence is preferred, with the ability to apply these technologies to enhance power system analysis and optimization.
  • Self-motivated: commits to deadlines and holds oneself accountable.

The salary range for this role is $115,100.00 - $143,900.00. This range represents what we in good faith believe is the range possible for base compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
