Job Description Summary:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based role supporting disease diagnosis, diagnostic methods, and strategic initiatives within the PTC portfolio. The MSL engages with key opinion leaders, clinicians, and institutions to facilitate early and accurate diagnosis, providing scientific expertise on disease states, clinical presentation, and differential diagnosis.

The MSL builds long-term relationships with healthcare professionals, supports clinical trial activities, and collaborates with internal teams to support early disease recognition and diagnosis. The role requires a strong understanding of the company's products, market dynamics, and the ability to communicate complex scientific information effectively.

Responsibilities include:
  • Represent PTC at national and regional medical meetings, engaging with attendees and cultivating professional relationships.
  • Deliver and develop scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, payors, and patient organizations.
  • Identify and train speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs.
  • Organize regional medical initiatives such as advisory boards.
  • Provide insights on therapies, business opportunities, and client feedback to management.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with health authorities, KOLs, HCPs, and other stakeholders.
  • Support submission of educational grants and research initiatives.
  • Stay informed on medical, regulatory, compliance, and competitive landscape issues.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MPH, PharmD, MD, PhD) in a scientific discipline with at least 7 years of relevant experience, including 3 years as an MSL in rare diseases.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently.
  • Experience supporting orphan, rare disease, or specialized drugs.
  • Customer-oriented approach and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with a proactive attitude.

About The Role

Major Accountabilities :

  • Be a strategic internal partner, gather and leverage insights for an impactful contribution to Patient Journey mapping, launch excellence roadmap, integrated evidence generation plans, integrated product strategy and subsequently the medical strategy.
  • Utilize knowledge of assigned therapeutic area and Novartis compounds to serve as the Medical, Clinical and Scientific expert to field matrix colleagues
  • Identify data gaps, data generation opportunities (including RWE and implementation science, precision medicine), and key unmet needs and opportunities to help improve patient access and outcomes
  • Ensure appropriate identification and mapping of external stakeholders, aligned to the medical strategy, and in collaboration with other Novartis colleagues. Able to create personalized, flexible engagement strategies and plans, leveraging multiple channels and tailored content to meet the changing needs of external stakeholders
  • Personalize and expand external stakeholder engagement beyond Healthcare Professionals. Support and contribute to innovative partnership models for shared ownership in transforming clinical practice
  • Apply foundational impactful Scientific Engagement principles in stakeholder interactions in alignment with medical strategy and portfolio/pipeline prioritization.
  • Communicate the right evidence to the right stakeholder at the right time, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for information from stakeholders by sharing appropriate data regarding marketed and pipeline compounds in a timely, compliant, and stakeholder-focused manner.

About the Role:

Requirements:

Responsibilities of the role include :

  • Attend national and regional medical meetings and symposia as a representative of PTC. Engage in discussions with attendees, attend scientific sessions and poster presentations, gather information, and summarize findings. When appropriate, cultivate professional relationships from these contacts.
  • Deliver, and potentially develop or design, fair-balanced and objective clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals (HCPs), payors, and patient organizations in response to unsolicited requests for information on the use of company products.
  • Identify and train speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs using regulatory-approved materials, slide sets, abstracts, posters, etc.
  • Organize and carry out regional medical initiatives, such as advisory boards, as needed.
  • Provide input to management regarding alternative therapies, business development opportunities/risks, and client feedback.
  • Establish, manage, and maintain successful relations with relevant health authorities, including but not limited to KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, and patient organizations.
  • Facilitate the accurate and timely submission of applications for unrestricted educational grants or research initiatives and requests for support of studies, according to company policy.
  • Maintain a thorough awareness of medical/clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality issues and processes as they apply to the company's therapeutic areas. Support and adhere to the standards established by the company.
  • Maintain competitor information relevant to the company's therapeutic areas, goals, project activities, and product team priorities. Stay current on therapeutic advances and competing therapies or products. Analyze and communicate relevant intelligence findings and present insightful data efficiently to internal stakeholders.

Requirements of the role include :

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MPH, PharmD, M.D., or Ph.D.) in a scientific discipline with at least 7 years of progressively responsible, relevant experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related environment. At least 3 years of experience as an MSL in rare diseases or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel daily to/from customer accounts and to drive or fly long distances, depending on the size of the assigned territory.
  • Experience supporting orphan, rare disease, and/or specialized drugs.
  • A highly customer-oriented approach, committed to achieving excellent customer service levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • A team mindset with a willingness to support the team and organization proactively.

Job Description

Major accountabilities:

Medical Expert Engagement

  • In collaboration with the cross-functional team, ensure appropriate identification, mapping and engagement of Medical Experts and study investigators in alignment to Integrated product strategy (IPS).
  • Provide and discuss medical, scientific and health care and outcome research evidence on new treatment options, Novartis compounds, products, therapeutic and research areas with key HCPs (e.g. external Medical Experts, researchers, key patient care providers) and relevant stakeholders involved in patient treatment decisions.
  • Upon unsolicited requests for information from HCPs, present data on Novartis products, this may include internally Globally approved information on compounds in development with no approved indications.
  • Involve HCPs when a need is identified to provide support / advice / participate in specific medical and scientific activities e.g. advisory boards, education of HCPs, publications, etc.

Internal Novartis Contributions

  • Serves as local medical resource for disease area and compound/product training to Novartis field colleagues (e.g. sales reps, CRAs).
  • Contribute to shape the IPS plan proactively providing external stakeholders’ insights and contribute to the design and execution and the Medical Affairs strategy and plan.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree: PharmD, PhD, Medical Doctor (MD).
  • Fluent in English & Local Language (oral and written).
  • Must be based in Jeddah, or willing to relocate there.
