The OpportunityThe ALCMS System Engineer is responsible for the operation, and lifecycle support of airfield lighting control and monitoring systems and related airfield ground lighting (AGL) infrastructure. You will ensure safe, compliant, and highly available runway/taxiway lighting operations through robust PLC/SCADA control, interlocks, and monitoring, working closely with Air Traffic Control (ATC), Aerodrome Operations, and Maintenance.
You will make an impact by.- Operations, Maintenance, and Reliability
- Monitor ALCMS performance, implement alarm management, and conduct root-cause analysis for faults (open circuits, shorted turns, insulation degradation, CCR issues).
- Optimize availability and response times; implement preventive/predictive maintenance and spares strategies.
- Perform periodic testing: stop-bar interlocks, runway lighting modes, brightness steps, CCR calibration, and support photometric testing programs.
- Train ATC/ops/maintenance staff and provide tier-2/3 technical support and on-call coverage as required.
- Safety, Compliance, and Cybersecurity
- Ensure compliance with ICAO Annex 14 Vol I, Aerodrome Design Manual (Doc 9157 Part 4), EASA CS ADR DSN/ADR.OR, and/or FAA ACs (e.g., AC 150/ , L 890 ALCMS, 5345 series).
- Apply electrical and control standards (IEC/EN 61821/61822, NFPA/NEC/IEC, SIL concepts where applicable).
- Implement cybersecurity controls for OT networks aligned to ISA/IEC 62443 and airport policies; maintain patching, backups, and access control.
- Develop risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and airside work permits; enforce Human Factors and safety management system (SMS) practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Controls/Automation, Electronics, or related engineering discipline
- Registration with Saudi Council of Engineers as an Engineer
- 3–7+ years hands-on experience with ALCMS/AGL or mission-critical PLC/SCADA systems in regulated environments (aviation, transportation, utilities).
- Strong knowledge of AGL components and series-circuit behaviour: CCRs, isolation transformers, L 8xx fixtures, L 823 connectors, L 824 cable, and stop-bar controls.
- Competence in networking for industrial control systems: Ethernet, VLANs, fibre, redundancy (RSTP/MRP), firewalls, and secure remote access.
- Ability to read/create SLDs, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, network drawings, and produce clear technical documentation.
- Experience with FAT/SAT, commissioning, and live operational cutovers with safety-critical interlocks.
- Airside environment with PPE; night/early morning works and occasional weekend shifts during runway closures.
- On-call rotation for critical incidents and weather-related operations.
- Ability to lift/test equipment and work in electrical rooms, manholes, and field pits.
- Must meet airport security/background requirements to obtain/maintain airside pass; valid driver’s license for airside driving permit.
