Essential Qualifications:
- Medical Degree (MD/MBBS or equivalent):
A recognized medical degree is fundamental. - Clinical Pathology Residency/Specialization:
Completion of a recognized residency program in Clinical Pathology is mandatory. This should include documented training and experience in all areas of clinical pathology. - Registration/Licensure:
Must be licensed to practice medicine and clinical pathology in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g., Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) in Saudi Arabia). Ensure the license is current and unrestricted. - Certification:
Board certification in Clinical Pathology (or equivalent) is highly desirable and often required. - Experience:
A significant number of years of experience as a Consultant/Specialist in Clinical Pathology (5+ years post-residency) is preferred. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role is highly advantageous.
II. Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive Knowledge of Clinical Pathology:
Deep understanding of all areas of clinical pathology, including: - Hematology
- Clinical Chemistry
- Microbiology
- Immunology/Serology
- Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine
Molecular Diagnostics
Laboratory Management Principles:
Knowledge of laboratory operations, quality control, quality assurance, regulatory compliance (e.g., CBAHI, CAP), budget management, personnel management, and safety protocols.- Technical Skills:
Proficiency in performing and interpreting common laboratory tests and procedures. Familiarity with various laboratory equipment and information systems (LIS). - Leadership and Communication Skills:
Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise laboratory staff, effectively communicate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, and foster a collaborative work environment. - Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Skills:
Ability to analyze complex laboratory data, troubleshoot technical issues, and make sound clinical and management decisions. - Continuous Learning:
Commitment to staying current with advances in clinical pathology and laboratory medicine.
III. Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Accreditation Processes:
Familiarity with the requirements for laboratory accreditation (e.g., CAP, JC). - Fluency in English and Arabic:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the relevant languages.
IV. Responsibilities:
- Overseeing all aspects of the clinical pathology laboratory.
- Ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory testing.
- Managing laboratory personnel and resources.
- Developing and implementing laboratory policies and procedures.
- Maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and accreditation standards.
- Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Participating in research and teaching activities.
- Budget management and financial oversight of the laboratory.
