The Chief of Laboratory, (a consultant grade medical doctor in any of laboratory related discipline) holds overall responsibility of effective, efficient & seamless operations & function of medical laboratory service of this facility, providing necessary diagnostic support & expertise to clinicians & patients round the clock, meeting highest level of expectation of stakeholders, fulfilling accepted international quality standards. The Chief of Laboratory needs to endeavor towards continuing improvement & best practices in medical laboratory service, spearheading the team in line with this facility's goals.

Consultant Specialist Genetic Services Laboratory Key Responsibilities
- Complies and adheres to the Medical Staff By-laws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, departmental and clinical policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvements objectives, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and abide by the rules and regulations of the College of Medicine.

- Evaluates, updates, and develops new laboratory tests/techniques in clinical molecular genetics, genomics, oncology and bioinformatics.
- Reviews and interprets patients’ results reliably, accurately and makes a report with integrity.
- Participates in educational programs for the staff, medical technology students, interns and residents, and in the continuous education of laboratory staff and physicians.
- Takes part in the selection of high quality state-of-the-art equipments for molecular, genomic and bioinformatics operations.
- Oversees quality control and quality assurance including setting quality standards for new tests and procedures and participate in the proficiency testing.
- Communicates with all physicians, clinicians, healthcare practitioner, and admin regarding patient safety and patient care. Provides education and training to patients and families.
- Provides high quality patient care in all aspects of KSUMC according to approved clinical privileges.
- Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that support to maximize the utilization of all resources within the department and across KSUMC.
