Your next role

An exciting opportunity for a proactive urban planning professional to join Buro Happold’s Security Design Team in Riyadh on a six month fixed term contract. This role is ideal for someone passionate about shaping secure, resilient urban environments. While prior experience in security planning is not required, a strong foundation in urban design and planning will be highly valuable.

  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and security specialists to integrate security principles into urban planning and masterplans.
  • Support the development of physical security strategies for public spaces, transport hubs, and critical infrastructure.
  • Translate planning-level design concepts into compelling presentations using MS Office and PowerPoint.
  • Conduct site analysis, zoning, circulation, and spatial planning with a security-focused approach.
  • Present ideas and design strategies fluently in both Arabic and English to clients and stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing reports, diagrams, and visual materials to communicate design intent and security considerations.
  • Participate in workshops, client meetings, and internal design reviews.
  • Work effectively in a small office environment, contributing to a collaborative and agile team culture.
Required Qualifications & Skills

Graduate or consultant-level experience in Urban Planning, Urban Design, or related field.

  • Fluent in Arabic and English (spoken and written).
  • Strong understanding of the design process for the built environment at the planning level.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, especially in PowerPoint.
  • No prior experience in security planning required but must have a strong interest in transitioning into physical security design.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and a lifelong learner with a “doer” mindset.
  • Comfortable working in asmall, dynamic office setting.
  • Familiarity with GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, or other urban design tools.
  • Awareness of physical security principles and their application in urban contexts.
