Job Title: Process Safety Engineer
Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Process Safety Engineer to support the implementation and continuous improvement of process safety management systems. This role is crucial for identifying potential hazards, minimizing operational risks, and ensuring safety compliance in line with industry standards. - Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 4 to 12 years of relevant experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in another discipline with 6 to 14 years of relevant experience.
- Experience: Proven background in process safety systems, risk management, and incident analysis in industrial or refinery environments.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) frameworks.
- Experience with hazard analysis tools (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, What-If).
- Familiarity with safety-related regulatory requirements and international standards.
- Ability to lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and safety reviews.

Job Purpose:

Key Accountabilities:
- Implement world-class Process Safety Management systems.
- Enhance Process safety culture & build Process Safety capabilities at Phosphate BU.
- Achieve Phosphate Process Safety Management objectives and performance indicators.
- Attend, represent, and ensure closure of all Process Safety Management-related audits.
- Address process safety issues that require innovative solutions and a significant level of evaluation judgment.
- Perform and review Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering) or related field.

- Knowledge of Ma’aden MSHEMS (or PSM-OSHA, CCPS).

Overview – Role
The Chemical Process Safety Engineer will report to the Director, Middle East and will be responsible for identifying process hazards, evaluating the risk of those hazards, and the development of effective solutions to mitigate risk. While the Chemical Process Safety Engineer must be familiar with the fourteen elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and the EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule, preference will be given to Chemical Process safety management. This role requires familiarity with NFPA 30; IL state pressure vessel requirements; IL state atmospheric storage tank requirements; and experience interfacing with insurance carriers (Factory Mutual).
Based in Doha/Khobar , this role will be responsible for supporting projects across Middle East.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). HAZID, NAZOP, SIL Workshops on existing and new processes
- Provide oversight for the site Management of Change (MOC) Process

Role Summary:
Process Safety and Operational Management Engineer is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of process safety and operational management solutions. Leveraging Process Safety experience, the candidate will ensure Plant.Digital solutions comply with the highest international standards employing the most advanced COTS. This role requires basic operational and technical expertise along with digital project management knowledge.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Support the design, development, and execution of comprehensive PS&OM solutions, aligning with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to studies for clients to implement strategies for enhancing process safety, operational efficiency, and overall performance of process facilities.
- Provide functional guidance and support to cross-functional solution consultant/development teams. Review the integration design of PS&OM module solutions within Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) technology framework and with existing client systems.
- Review client’s HAZOP/LOPA/PHA studies and PS&ORM SOPs/business processes (JSAs, PSSRs, SIMOPs, Work Permit, LOTO, etc.) to align scope requirements for digital solution.
- Develop and implement robust process safety management (PSM) programs to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate alternative COTS solutions with respect to functional requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of PS&OM objectives with project goals.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and client’s procedures related to PS&OM and HSSE.
- Analyze PS&OM metrics and data to identify trends, root causes of incidents, and opportunities for improvement.
- Foster a culture of safety, continuous learning, and improvement within the organization.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Academic: BSc degree in Chemical Engineering or similar field.
- Work Experience: Over 4 years of relevant and proven experience in the industry. Has participated in deployment/support of at least one process safety digital application.
- Process Engineering Knowledge: Fundamental knowledge of Energy processes and related safety aspects, such as refineries, gas plants, GOSPs, NGL processing, petrochemicals, etc.
- Process Safety Procedures & Tools: Fundamental knowledge of below:
1- Process safety and risk analysis principles, tools, and software (such as but not limited to TapRoot, Digital Operations Management including Field Rounds, Logbook, etc.).
2- Key process safety studies such as HAZOP, LOPA, PHAs, and Barrier Management.
3- Key procedures such as Work Permit, Lock-out Tag-out (LOTO), Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), behavior-based practices such as site inspections, PSSRs, and incident investigation tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCAs).
4- Process automation/DCS safety components such as ESDs, Alarm Management and Rationalization, etc.
- Project Management: Knowledge of project management principles and equivalents in digitalization projects. Preferably hold PMP certification.
- Technical Writing: Withholds excellent abilities to communicate in Technical English with peers, clients, and management.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal communications. Ability to lead teams. Ability to develop reports/presentations for different stakeholders.

WSP in the Middle East is seeking for an experienced Associate Director - Fire & Life Safety to lead and grow our specialist team in Riyadh, KSA. The role will focus on delivering complex Fire and Life Safety strategies and solutions across major infrastructure and building projects, ensuring compliance with local and international standards
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Fire & Life Safety team on multidisciplinary projects.
- Lead design efforts to ensure compliance with relevant building codes and standards, developing performance-based design solutions where necessary, in collaboration with senior staff.
- Conduct onsite inspections during project construction to ensure adherence to the fire strategy throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate and present projects to approving authorities, demonstrating compliance with established standards.
- Review material submittals and shop drawings, ensuring fire protection requirements are communicated clearly to the project team.
- Lead multidisciplinary design teams, integrating fire and life safety requirements with other disciplines.
- Interpret and analyze CFD modeling results (1D/3D) to assess proposed engineering solutions.
- Develop comprehensive fire strategy reports, ensuring exceptional quality and documenting performance-based design solutions in line with standards such as the International Fire Engineering Guidelines (IFEG) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineering Guide (SFPE).
- Review designs in BIM (Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit) to ensure integration of fire safety principles into the design.
- Mentor, support and manage junior staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Communicate design requirements effectively and in a timely manner with multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and effective collaboration across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
- Take Commercial and Technical leadership for FLS projects, owning client relationships, and work winning through the delivery of technically excellence.
- Hold a leadership position within the Specialist Services division to support the combined implementation of strategic goals for the business.
- Up hold the highest standards of quality assurance and lead by example for others to follow.
- Deliver high-quality, technically accurate design reports that align with client and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the development of fire and life safety drawings, with the assistance of junior staff.
- Lead technical workgroups, reviewing architectural, FLS, fire protection, and mechanical/electrical drawings for compliance with fire strategy and relevant codes.
- Review material submittals to ensure compliance with fire strategy and regulatory standards.
- Proficient in the International Building Code, International Fire Code, Saudi Building Codes, and NFPA standards.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in fire & life safety, with at least 5 years in leadership capacity.
- Extensive knowledge of regional (SBC/UAE Fire Code) and international (NFPA, IBC, BS/EN) codes.
- Proven track record delivering large-scale buildings or infrastructure projects in the GCC.
- Professional certification (CFPS, CEng, PE) is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
