Overview

Structural Work Preparator - International Maritime Industries

Responsibilities
  • Identify the scope of work (onboard, in workshop, or other areas), quantify it, including manhours breakdowns and material requirements.
  • Receive client signatures on markup drawings and prepare materials, requisitions, and related documentation.
  • Follow up with work in progress and closure of the work and relevant documentation.
  • Adhere to, reinforce, and promote IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies.
  • Evaluate repair specifications, calculate total repair weight, itemize manhour requirements and total duration, prepare material lists, and requisition materials as needed.
  • Prepare drawings/sketches as markups, obtain client signatures, and distribute as required.
  • Liaise with Operations project controls for information required/submittals.
  • Assist in bid support as required.
  • Prepare material lists for execution and ensure material availability from Warehouse or direct purchase.
  • Prepare detailed job sheets for supervisors, record daily progress, and prepare final work descriptions for approval by the Section/Department Head.
  • Update vessel weight files for structural repairs and miscellaneous items; capture actual as-built weights for commercial purposes.
  • Close all relevant GRNs and SRNs on time for proper cost capture and gross margin calculation.
  • Prepare scope of work, work packages, and specifications for work outsourced to external parties.
  • Nest steel plate to minimize material waste and optimize cutting (scallops, recesses, lighting holes) for CNC plasma cutting rather than manual onboard work when possible.
  • Provide estimated man-hours and progress details to Production Planning Units.
  • Attend daily on-board meetings with Owner's Representatives and Project Managers to follow progress.
  • Develop work descriptions and perform other relevant tasks as directed by management.
Requirements
  • Qualifications & Experience
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline, or a related diploma with extensive experience.
    • Professional Qualifications: Proven experience in running Structural work preparation within a ship repair and rig repair establishment at the same/equivalent level; shipyard/marine qualifications or time served.
  • Competencies
    • In-depth knowledge of production processes in a shipyard environment for ship and rig repairs.
    • Documentation management and resource assessment.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD; strong engineering drawing interpretation.
    • Knowledge of ISO standards, classification rules, API regulations, and regulatory requirements.
    • Excellent written and spoken English communication; ability to work physically in extreme conditions.
  • Experience: At least 3 years’ experience for degree holders and 11 years’ experience for diploma holders in structural production within shipyard environments for ship/rig repairs.
  • Languages
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English.

The primary responsibility of the Work Permit Receiver is to ensure that all work is carried out safely by obtaining, understanding, and complying with the work permit system. The role acts as a link between workers and the permit issuer to ensure compliance with safety procedures, risk assessments, and operational guidelines before starting any job in hazardous areas.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, review, and understand work permits before starting any job.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out under the proper permit category (Hot Work, Cold Work, Confined Space, Electrical Work, etc.).
  • Verify that the work permit contains all required approvals, safety measures, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, isolation plans, and other safety protocols.
  • Maintain proper documentation of work permits throughout the job duration.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and worksite restoration upon job completion.
  • Sign off on completed work and return permits to the issuing authority for closure.

  • Oil & Gas and petrochemical experience shall be preferred.
  • Previous experience working in Saudi Arabia/transferable Iqama/driving license shall be preferred.
  • Ability to understand & Speak in English clearly.
