Job Description
King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, College of Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences (CPG), Department of Geosciences invites applications for a faculty position (Associate or Full Professor level) in the field of Environmental Management with an emphasis on conservation and biodiversity, environmental impact and risk assessment, environmental policy and law, and/or climate change and sustainability, to begin as early as January 2026. We seek an outstanding individual to boost the Department’s reputation for cutting-edge research and dedicated teaching.
The Department has a strong tradition and international reputation in applied undergraduate and graduate education and offers accredited B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in geology and geophysics, and an M.S. degree in Environmental Science. KFUPM ranks 7th globally in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by subject category of Minerals and Mining Engineering. The Department has 22 full-time faculty, two lecturers, six post-docs, five supporting staff, and approximately 71 undergraduate majors and 153 graduate students. State-of-the-science analytical facilities are housed in CPG. Programs are enhanced through close collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Engineering within the College and with other departments on campus (e.g., Civil and Environmental Engineering). Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong and vibrant externally funded research program and establish an international reputation through publication, in addition to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, directing graduate research, and supervising thesis projects.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a doctoral degree from a reputable university with emphasis on socioeconomic, sustainability, environmental ethics, conservation, restoration, and ecology subjects. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success for high-quality research and scholarship. Research interests should complement and support programs, and candidates linking their research in environmental management to the exploration and development of hydrocarbon or mineral deposit resources are desired. Applicants should demonstrate a record of successful teaching and possess strong interpersonal, writing, and communication skills. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, technically proficient, and able to work independently but collaboratively with others. Preference will be given to applicants who can teach undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental management. Applications from qualified female candidates are encouraged.
Compensation: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. KFUPM and CPG provide an attractive benefits package including free on-campus housing, fully paid health insurance, dependent education aid, and paid tickets for annual repatriation holidays. The Environmental Group under the UOE&CD oversees and report on environmental requirements and activities to the President of Upstream driving performance through close monitoring, optimizing processes and providing guidance and support to operating departments within the business line.
Key Responsibilities:
As successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:
- Ensure Upstream operations remain compliant with ISO 14001 requirements by conducting Environmental Management System (EMS) audits and Environmental Compliance Assessments (ECA) to improve/maintain Environmental Leadership KPI, bridge compliance gaps and prepare facilities for corporate assessments.
- Identify and address gaps in compliance against current Corporate and Government regulations.
- Report environmental compliance aspects including scorecard dashboard KPIs, internal metrics and indicators. These are mainly flaring, SO2 emissions, GHG emission, water conservation, waste management, Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Particulate Matter (PMs) & Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
- Support sustainability reporting process by facilitating the environmental third-party assurance audits with corporate, reviewing reports prior to issuance.
- Advise on regulatory compliance aspects and improving environmental processes.
- Engage external stakeholders for issues related to environmental compliance in liaison with relevant corporate entities and representatives.
- Monitor performance of modified processes to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
- Evaluate data and provide trend analysis and highlight gaps in compliance followed by recommendations to address potential gaps identified.
- Advice upstream operations on managing environmental risks and provide recommendations to mitigate impacts.
- Provide expert feedback to Company standards review committees and advice revision process.
Minimum Requirements:
- As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university or an environmental science degree with relevant experience in the industry. An advanced degree is (Master’s degree).
- You will have 5-10 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.
- You must have proven experience in environmental management systems including auditing ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems;

This position is based in Jeddah and will require regular domestic travel and occasional international travel.
The Regional Environmental Engineer must have excellent communication skills, strong environmental regulatory knowledge, particularly with respect to Saudi Arabia's regulations and standards, demonstrated success in program management, and experience leading teams in complex and technical projects. Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee compliance with local, provincial and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policy.
- Develop regional strategic programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations. Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.
- Function as a leader regarding regulatory agency interactions, permit evaluation and processing, and new process and technology introduction.
- Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.
- Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor and forecast performance.
- Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement.
- Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.
- Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company.
- Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.
- Submit time-critical reports to various governmental agencies.
- Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective action.

The AWS Environmental team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS's growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS's global operations, including physical data centers, as well as other AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products. The Environmental team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWS's global environmental programs. This includes defining and implementing risk and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the of standards, tools, auditing and metrics, and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives, including those that are part of Amazon's ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective environmental compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while compliance with environmental and regulations.

Basic Qualifications
- A completed Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering or related field of study
- Experience serving as an environmental technical resource, program specialist, or program manager
- Experience with regulatory assessments, construction notifications, wastewater authority discharge requirements, waste management and reporting requirements. Broad knowledge of Saudi Arabia's federal and provincial environmental regulations and standards
- Experience leading change in multiple site environments and the ability to influence those that are not direct reports or within your organization
- Fluent in Arabic, written and spoken

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Determines methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and selects the most efficient and economical manner in meeting the objectives. Applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses within a discipline. This level of Engineer is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of current engineering theories and practices. May serve as a technical consultant in area of specialty for management or the client. Many assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
