Key job responsibilities

The Regional Environmental Engineer (REE) will be responsible for environmental compliance at Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The REE will develop standards and policies to support regulatory compliance and provide environmental compliance guidance for regional operations and construction teams. The individual will complete environmental performance analysis, establish and monitor metrics, and guide the teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards. The REE will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders. This position is based in Jeddah and will require regular domestic travel and occasional international travel.

The Regional Environmental Engineer must have excellent communication skills, strong environmental regulatory knowledge, particularly with respect to Saudi Arabia's regulations and standards, demonstrated success in program management, and experience leading teams in complex and technical projects.   • Function as a leader regarding regulatory agency interactions, permit evaluation and processing, and new process and technology introduction.

  • Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards.

  • Develop environmental metrics to measure, monitor and forecast performance.

  • Conduct thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple technically complex assignments concurrently.

  • Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company.

  • Build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to ensure risks are identified early and managed appropriately.

  • Submit time-critical reports to various governmental agencies.

  • Complete thorough and accurate environmental incident investigations and associated regulatory reports and develop appropriate corrective action.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Determines methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and selects the most efficient and economical manner in meeting the objectives. Applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses within a discipline. This level of Engineer is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of current engineering theories and practices. May serve as a technical consultant in area of specialty for management or the client. Many assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations, is expected.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

May function as discipline Project Engineer on medium to large projects, assuming responsibility for the work of the group.May plan, direct, and supervise the work of a major engineering unit or project requiring a large-scale expenditure of manpower and financial investment.Leads other Engineers and design personnel in technical excellence and growth in the Quality Improvement Process.Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract.Prepares material/equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.Develops operation and maintenance plans; develops standard operating procedures; prepares O & M manuals and may conduct on-site training of personnel.Conducts surveys, studies, and site investigations.Performs reliability, availability, maintenance (RAM) and safety analyses.Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. May assist with other administrative and technical duties.Recommends and prepares technical papers.Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or related field) and typically 10+ years of related work experience. Professional Engineer registration may be required.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Potential to perform in a lead capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required. Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on project.

Role Summary:


You are responsible for supervising field personnel, administering good construction safety practices and communicating effectively with all on-site activities ensuring that all our operations run smoothly and well-organized. You will deal with various construction activities and maintain good communication with supervision and project management teams.


What you will need to do:


  • Prepare environmental related project plans and documents (e.g. CEMP specialized sub plans), risk assessments, incident reports, inspection reports, Client weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, internal monthly reports etc.
  • Coordinate with third party consultants for implementing the environmental monitoring of the project as well as organizing environmental monitoring that can be done in house.
  • Performregular inspections, and audits etc. to identify compliance including recommendations for corrective or preventive action where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with the Client forall relevant environmental requirements of the project.

What you will need to have:


  • A formal Tertiary Education (University/College) qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or an Environmental related subject
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ total experience in construction projects with at least 2 years as an Environmental Manager.
  • Marine construction experience is essential (i.e. causeways, breakwaters, etc.)
  • Ecology background (either as part of his studies or as part of his previous experience) is a must.
  • Strong experience in preparingenvironmental related project plans and documents (e.g. CEMP specialized subplans), risk assessments etc.
  • Familiarization with specialized environmental monitoring programs (e.g. sea water and sediment quality, surveys on corals, seagrasses, mangroves, migratory birds, turtles, marine mammals, real time water monitoring stations etc.)
  • Experience in performing regular environmentalinspections and audits.
  • Previous KSA experience is preferred
