Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries and very few office-based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.

The company is founder-led, profitable, and growing.

We want to transform the world of software operations by enabling true model-driven operations via next-generation infrastructure-as-code. We strive for high quality in both design, documentation, tests, and performance as we enhance operations code packages and Ubuntu itself in order to ensure our platform is the easiest, most robust, and best performing for driving your infrastructure.

As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility is to the people you lead and support: ensuring that they are growing as engineers, doing valuable work, and finding satisfaction in their career at Canonical. We need someone who can display technical leadership by leveraging a solid background in software development so that they're able to challenge and grow their team members. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on direction and execution.

  • Coordinate with management and internal and external stakeholders or customers
  • Advocate for modern, agile software development practices
  • Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices

  • Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organisation
  • Travel globally up to 10% of time for internal and external events

Who you are

  • You love developing and growing people and have a track record of doing it
  • You are knowledgeable and passionate about agile software development
  • You love leading, coaching, and mentoring software developers - especially Python ones
  • You are knowledgeable in cloud computing concepts & technologies
  • You are comfortable administrating Linux servers, including their storage and networking
  • You have hands-on experience with software automation
  • You are organized and want your team to deliver high-quality software in a timely manner
  • You are a lifelong learner

Bonus points for

  • You have graduated with a university degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field
  • Having a thorough understanding of modern infrastructure, including OpenStack or Kubernetes

Job Description

About the role

As Head of Solutions Engineering, you will set Lean’s technical sales strategy, codify playbooks, and build a high-performing team. You will stay hands-on with our highest-stakes clients to protect key relationships and remain grounded in the daily realities of the function you lead.

Your targets link revenue directly to customer outcomes, and you will work with Product and Engineering to turn frontline feedback into product improvements.

This is a leadership role for someone who knows how to move fast and prioritize outcomes before bureaucracy. We expect you to focus first on delivering results for clients and the business, and only introduce processes when it sharpens execution.

Your team : Solutions Engineers are Lean’s technical diplomats. We embed with prospects and customers to translate business goals into production-ready architectures for data aggregation, bank-to-bank payments, and automated reconciliation. We own the end-to-end technical relationship from the first whiteboard session to scaling volumes while being the champion of the customer’s voice inside Lean.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain Solutions Engineers who deliver crisp, opinionated guidance and obsessive customer focus.

  • Build scalable playbooks for discovery, solution design, proof-of-concepts, and go-live support.

  • Partner with Sales to lead pre-sales activities, including technical discovery, product demonstrations, RFP responses, solution design, and client presentations.

  • Channel customer feedback into Product and Engineering, driving the evolution of our data, payments, and operations APIs.

  • Influence senior leadership, architects, and developers at fintechs, lenders, insurers, and large enterprises, shaping their open-banking roadmaps and accelerating time-to-value.

  • Set clear team targets tied to client revenue growth, especially consumption revenue in early stages of client engagement.

  • Drive measurable outcomes such as faster go-lives, deeper product adoption, and higher API usage across the client portfolio.

  • Build a culture of grit, perseverance, and curiosity within the Solutions Engineering team.

  • Operate across Saudi Arabia and UAE client markets with an even focus on both.

  • Act as a thought leader, publishing reference architectures, speaking at industry events, and representing Lean in regulator and standards-body discussions.

Required Experience
  • 8+ years experience in Solutions Engineering, Pre-Sales Engineering, or Technical Consulting, ideally at an API-first company.

  • 3+ years managing Solutions Engineers or Technical Client Success teams, ideally within fast-paced, high-growth environments.

  • Strong hands-on experience working with APIs, client integrations, and technical solution design.

  • Payments experience strongly preferred; Open Banking, Fintech, or financial APIs background is a significant advantage.

  • Track record of personally leading complex client engagements and revenue growth initiatives.

  • Proven ability to work directly with Product and Engineering teams to influence roadmaps through structured client feedback.

  • Experience setting and managing performance targets for technical teams.

  • MENA experience preferred; relocation required if not currently based in-region.

  • Arabic language skills are a strong plus, but not required.

What We’re Looking For
  • Relentless bias for action: comfortable operating amid regulatory ambiguity and shifting product surfaces.

  • Understands when to be scrappy versus when to formalize structure.

  • Executive presence: able to spar with a bank’s CISO in the morning and pair-program a proof-of-concept with a startup’s CTO in the afternoon.

  • Passionate coach who sets a high bar, gives direct feedback, and celebrates outsized impact.

  • Strong intellectual curiosity combined with resilience under pressure.

  • Able to build trust with clients, reports, and internal stakeholders quickly.

What We Offer
  • A leadership role at the center of fintech innovation in the Middle East.

  • The opportunity to build and scale a Solutions Engineering function from a strong foundation.

  • Competitive salary, commission, and equity package.

  • Relocation support to move to Riyadh or Dubai.

  • A culture that prioritizes ownership, curiosity, and impact.

NB. While we think the above experience could be important, we’re keen to hear from people that believe they have valuable experience to bring to the role. If you identify with the team and mission, but not all of our requirements, then please still apply!

Why Join us?

Lean is the first regulated open banking and open finance company operating across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Since 2019 we've been on a mission to become the pre-eminent A2A payments company in the Middle East - enabling our clients to seamlessly connect to their users’ bank accounts to initiate real-time payments and retrieve account information. Our products have garnered the trust of some of the leading companies in the region, including the likes of Etisalat Group, Careem, Binance, Tabby, Tamara, Tawuniya, and more.

To date, Lean has processed billions of dollars, and our products have connected with hundreds of thousands of accounts across the region. We've recently announced our $67.5 million Series B funding round led by General Catalyst, following earlier investment from Sequoia Capital. This funding marks a major milestone for Lean and the financial ecosystem across the MENA region. At Lean, we’re committed to driving the next generation of financial innovation by making financial data and payments more accessible and transparent for businesses and consumers alike.

To that end, we're always on the lookout for talented, driven, and entrepreneurial candidates to join us in our mission of enabling the next generation of financial innovation. If you're motivated by solving hard problems and leaving a lasting legacy while you're at it, Lean's where you need to be.

Not only do we offer competitive salaries, private healthcare, and flexible office hours, but we also insist that every member of the team hold a meaningful equity stake in the business to ensure long-term alignment. We'd love you to join us for this journey!

Lean is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.

When applying for a job at Lean Technologies, we will need to collect, use and share Personal Data about you with different members of our team during the application process. This may mean transferring your data to members of the team in one of our office locations worldwide outside of the country you are in. Please refer to our Privacy Notice on our website for more information about how we may use and store your Personal Data
