Job Description

The Instrumentation, Automation, and Electronics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, calibration, installation, and troubleshooting of all plant instrumentation, automation systems, and electronic equipment. This role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of process control systems and supports continuous plant operations. The position involves supervising a team of technicians and coordinating with other departments for preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and automation projects.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise day-to-day activities related to instrumentation, automation, and electronic systems in the plant.

Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance of PLCs, SCADA, sensors, actuators, transmitters, VFDs, HMIs, and other control devices.

Oversee the calibration and testing of process instruments to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.

Troubleshoot complex automation and electrical control issues, ensuring minimal production downtime.

Lead the installation and commissioning of new automation systems and instrumentation.

Coordinate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure smooth system integration and functionality.

Monitor system performance and recommend improvements for reliability and efficiency.

Maintain technical documentation, manuals, calibration records, and system backups.

Ensure adherence to safety regulations, electrical codes, and company standards.

Train and mentor instrumentation and automation technicians.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or a related field.

Licensed Engineer or relevant certifications (e.g., PLC programming, instrumentation) preferred.

At least 3–5 years of experience in instrumentation, automation, or controls within an industrial or manufacturing setting.

Minimum of 1–2 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.

Skills & Qualifications

Strong knowledge of PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Omron, etc.), SCADA, HMI, and DCS systems.

Experience in instrumentation calibration, loop checking, and process control systems.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control diagrams.

Solid troubleshooting skills in electronic circuits, control panels, and automation systems.

Proficient in using software tools for programming and system diagnostics.

Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Experience in lean manufacturing, predictive maintenance, or Industry 4.0 technologies.

Familiarity with ISO standards and industrial safety practices.

**Job Purpose & Responsibilities**

The tasks performed include the following activities:

- Identify, evaluate and recommend improvement needs for APC safety aspects.
- Identify, evaluate, review, develop and deploy technical standards and best practices related to APC.
- Identify, evaluate, develop and deploy technical global initiatives in APC.
- Support manufacturing sites to resolve chronic failures/issues at sites globally.
- Support in technical audits/assessments/cold eye reviews and remaining life assessment initiatives.
- Engage with key OEMs to address design issues affecting asset reliability and to maintain knowledge of upcoming technological improvements.
- Monitor the market for new ideas, innovations and identify novel solutions for life cycle management of APC.
- Lead and/or participate in technical networks, forums, conferences and committees.
- Develop and delivery of specialized, quality training to site engineers.

**MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**

Master’s Degree in Engineering, with extended education and experience in the APC expertise area.

15 Years’ experience.

Additional required qualifications:

- Demonstrated experience in Petrochemical and Oil and Gas industry.
- Global expert on APC as demonstrated by significant accomplishments and contributions acquired over a period of minimum 15 years,
- Experience areas shall include cost/benefit analysis, technical design, implementation, commissioning, start-up, maintenance, sustainability, trouble shooting, failure analyzing and overhaul dedicated to APC systems, with proven experience on project execution, operation and maintenance of:

- APC technology, systems, industry standards and practices, including step testing, model identification, inferential deployment, interfacing and commissioning, cost/benefit analysis,
- Advanced Solutions and RTO technology, systems, industry standards and practices
- Process Modelling and Optimization. Dynamic and steady-state optimization,
- Advanced Regulatory control, Control loops performance, monitoring & fine tune,
- Expert systems design and implementation,
- Plant performance, historian and monitoring systems and processes

**Qualifications**:

- You should have a minimum of 8 years’ experience as a line maintenance Technician within refining /oil and gas plants /petrochemical industries.
- You should be able to demonstrate strong knowledge across safety standards for Oil and Gas Facilities.
- Knowledge in Instrumentation International Standard.
- You should have a full understanding of related Instrument Drawings (Loop Diagram (ILD), Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID), Instrument
- Specification Sheet (ISS) ) and other related drawing for Instrumentation.
- Full understanding of field instrument and signal symbols.
- You should have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in the field of Instrumentation.
- You should have working knowledge of oil/gas-related plant processes.

**Task Description**:

- Utilize different types of hand-held field communicator (TREX, Rosemount Configurator and Honeywell MC Toolkit Configurator) and other instrument test Equipment.
- Perform maintenance for all instrumentation devices attached to pumps, turbine and compressors.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting and replacements on below list of field instruments;
- Smart Transmitters (Honeywell, YOKOGAWA, Endress +Houser Honeywell Digital Transmitter)
- GWR(Guided Wave Radar) Level transmitter (Magnetrol, Rosemount, Endress Houser and VEGA)
- Displacer type Level Transmitter smart and analog.
- Control valve and positioner (Masoneilan, Fisher, valtek, METSO, FLOWSERVE, LCP100)
- Solenoid valve, Pneumatic relay, Boosters and regulators.
- BENTLEY NEVADA probes and approximators.
- Flame scanner
