Our client is a multi-sector private equity fund with investments across diverse industries, and we are now seeking an Associate to join their team with a specialized focus on the food, cold chain, and consumer sectors in Southeast Asia (SEA) and the Middle East. The role will be based in the Middle East for the first year, with opportunities for global business travel.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team to identify and evaluate attractive investment targets specifically in the food, cold chain, and consumer sectors across the Middle East and SEA, leveraging deep sector insights and regional market expertise.
• Food sector: Supply chain dynamics, product innovation trends, regulatory compliance (e.g., halal certification, food safety standards), and consumer demand shifts.
• Cold chain: Infrastructure capacity (e.g., refrigerated storage, transportation networks), technology adoption (e.g., temperature-tracking systems), and regional logistics challenges (e.g., desert climate impact on cold chain efficiency).
• Consumer sector: Brand dynamics, purchasing behavior (e.g., premiumization, e-commerce adoption), and cultural nuances in consumption patterns.
• Build financial models and valuation analyses tailored to sector-specific metrics (e.g., cold chain operational costs, food product gross margins, consumer brand loyalty metrics) to support investment decisions.
• Prepare investment memos and presentations for the investment committee, highlighting sector-specific strategic rationale, risks (e.g., cold chain disruption risks in SEA), and return potential in the food, cold chain, and consumer spaces.
• Support transaction structuring and legal negotiations, ensuring alignment with sector-specific regulations (e.g., cold chain safety protocols, food import/export policies) and regional compliance requirements.
• Monitor post-investment performance of portfolio companies in the target sectors, providing actionable insights (e.g., optimizing cold chain logistics for food retailers, adapting consumer products to local tastes) based on regional market dynamics.
• Maintain a pulse on sector trends (e.g., sustainable cold chain solutions, plant-based food growth in the Middle East) and integrate diverse perspectives to refine investment strategies.

Requirements

• Strong academic background from a reputable university; postgraduate degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc in Food Science, Supply Chain Management) are highly preferred.
• 2-6 years of experience in growth-stage private equity or investment banking, with a track record in food, cold chain, or consumer sector transactions ; experience with SEA/Middle East deals in these sectors (e.g., cold chain infrastructure investments, food tech startups, consumer brand expansions) is a key advantage.
• Ability to act as a sector specialist while retaining generalist adaptability, with proven expertise in analyzing food supply chains, cold chain operations, or consumer market dynamics.
• Excellent English and Chinese communication skills (verbal and written); proficiency in Arabic or SEA languages (e.g., Malay, Vietnamese) is a significant plus for engaging with local stakeholders in sector-specific negotiations.
• Deep understanding of sector trends in the target regions: e.g., growth of frozen food markets driving cold chain demand in the Middle East, rising middle-class consumption of packaged foods in SEA.
• Strong financial modeling skills with familiarity of sector-specific KPIs (e.g., cold chain capacity utilization, consumer ARPU, food inventory turnover) and market sizing capabilities for niche segments (e.g., premium cold chain services for pharmaceuticals vs. food).
• Ability to work independently on sector-specific research and collaboratively within a cross-industry team, with leadership in driving food/cold chain/consumer-focused initiatives.
• Flexibility to operate in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment, with proactive problem-solving (e.g., navigating regional cold chain inefficiencies or food regulatory variations).

• Availability for approximately 40 training days per year, with flexibility during summer, fall, and spring semesters, including potential international travel.

Assess investment risks associated with new deals on a standalone basis as well as their contribution to the risk profile of the overall portfolio.

Perform regular portfolio monitoring in accordance with investment procedures.

Conduct in-depth risk analysis on sensitive investments and during crisis situations requiring additional assessment.

Collaborate with relevant investment teams to ensure effective risk oversight and provide strategic advice.

Review due diligence reports, financial model assumptions, and investment memos for various transactions.

Experience in one or more of the following areas: investment risk in private equity, risk consulting with exposure to private assets, or data science with portfolio modeling expertise.

Degree from a top-tier university is required. Masters and/or CFA certification is preferred.

Experience reviewing due diligence reports, financial models, and investment memos.

Knowledge of systems such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Power BI/Tableau, Preqin, PitchBook, etc., is advantageous.

Willingness and ability to relocate and work full-time in Saudi Arabia.
