Job Summary

As the Electrical Distribution Technician (Airfield Lighting Technician) assigned to Al Udeid Airforce Base in Qatar, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective operation of airfield lighting, maintenance, and repairs, enhancing U.S. Military capabilities on the airfield. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and an unwavering commitment to safety. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing all airfield lighting systems, including high voltage (HV) 5kV and up to 2400 kV lines, at specified locations on the base. The qualified candidate will manage airfield lighting on runways, obstruction lighting, taxiways, aircraft ramps, and area lighting. Components include vaults, backup generators, fuel tanks, and UPS systems. Responsibilities also include maintaining approach systems, runway threshold lights, and related circuits.

Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Manage resources and activities related to installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems.
    • Ensure compliance with all PWS requirements, host nation laws, and U.S. Department of Defense and State Department regulations.
  2. Technical Expertise:
    • Minimum 5 years of full-time experience in high/medium voltage electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of electronics and electricity principles, high/medium/low voltage circuits, circuit breakers, relays, meters, etc.
    • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure system integrity.
    • Maintain compliance with contractual and manufacturer specifications.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    • Train team members on safety practices and hazard analysis.
    • Manage hazardous waste and POL storage.
  4. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare outage and other reports.
    • Maintain operational logs, record readings, and document maintenance activities.
  5. Qualifications:
    • Experience with low voltage (24-600V) and distribution systems up to 13,800V.
    • Completion of approved DOD or equivalent training in Airfield Lighting.
    • Proficiency in English and knowledge of electrical principles, schematics, and safety practices.
  6. Education, Experience, and Credentials:
    • Minimum 10 years’ full-time experience in Airfield Lighting.
    • ICC journeyman or master certification.
    • Valid passport and ability to obtain residency visa.
    • Pass CENTCOM medical and meet deployment requirements.
    • Valid driver’s license.
  7. Skills and Abilities:
    • Flight Line Driving Certification during employment.
    • Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  8. Security Clearance: Secret Clearance Required.
  9. US Citizenship: Required, with maintained clearance eligibility.
  10. Austere Working Conditions:
    • Ability to work in extreme weather, PPE required.

The Role:



The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for providing preventative maintenance for all premises and equipment in the Property portfolio, and also handles emergency repairs for the same.



This role requires you to manage third party suppliers whilst continually monitoring equipment, services and contractors.



Throughout your duties you will maintain the confidentiality of market, commercial, personal and financial information, building and maintaining effective working relationships with all parties.

Qualifications & Requirements:



You will have:



- A degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.



- 5 years in a 'hands on' role as an electrical maintenance technician.

- 5 years experience in a multi-skilled supervisory role covering all electrical maintenance and engineering disciplines (AC, power generation & distribution, HVAC/environment controls, chiller plant, lighting, motors, switchgear and electrical installations).



- The ideal candidate will possess good computer skills, and a strong technical awareness with an excellent overview of building services.

Responsible for installing, wiring, and maintaining solar photovoltaic systems, ensuring efficient energy conversion and safe operation. Their role includes setting up solar panels, inverters, and electrical components, performing system testing and troubleshooting faults, conducting maintenance checks, and ensuring compliance with safety and grid regulations. They also handle documentation, reporting system performance, and collaborating with engineers for system upgrades, all while following industry standards for electrical safety and efficiency.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintenance Operations – Perform routine maintenance activities as per O&M manuals and supervisor instructions.
  • Safety & Compliance – Follow HSE procedures, including PTW-LOTO, and adhere to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Record-Keeping & Reporting – Document maintenance tasks, report deficiencies, and assist in audits.
  • Warehouse & Inventory Management – Track spare parts, maintain inventory, and manage warehouse transactions.
  • System Repairs & Troubleshooting – Repair inverters, combiner boxes, PV panels, and resolve communication issues.
  • Monitoring & Analysis – Conduct thermographic analysis and oversee SCADA system operations.
  • Training & Certification – Attend training sessions, obtain necessary certifications, and operate MV equipment after qualification.
  • Cleaning & Equipment Handling – Supervise cleaning operations, ensure proper tool usage, and follow safety protocols.

  • Maintenance expertise in HV equipment and certification in HV operations.
  • Specialized knowledge in DC/AC PV inverter maintenance.

  • 1+ years of experience in UPS, inverters, or PV technology.

Office Manager Role

You will play a crucial role in maintaining a productive and organized work environment by overseeing office supplies, equipment maintenance, and facility management to support the efficiency of the entire team.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Facilitating internal and external communication by managing channels, handling inquiries, and promoting teamwork across departments.
