Experience:

Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing. Master is preferred Leadership and Management Courses or Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Course certifications are preferred.

Language:

Excellent command of the English language and Arabic is a plus.

Licenses / Certifications:

License from the country of origin, License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA), BLS, ACLS and other LSTC courses as applicable.

Job Purpose / Objective

Supervise, coordinate and organize all nursing related functions/ activities for the specific assigned shift which include clinical and administrative tasks with focus on providing and delivering high quality of patient care based on JCIA/ CBAHI and other accreditation standards. Supervisor role is balanced between patient care/ needs and monitoring the nursing department performance during a specific shift as to promote continuing professional development of staff and ensure the provision of the best quality patient care within the available resources.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Ensure the efficiency of departments’ operational activities by being involved, available and reachable.
  • Conduct physical round (clinical and non-clinical) to all departments/ units to:
    • Review the staffing status and ensure adequate coverage.
    • Gather patient census.
    • Check and inspect appropriateness of the department including medication rooms, stores and utility rooms.
    • Support and inspire the staff on duty and be role model / reference.
    • Identify and notice any unusual behavior/ observation and act accordingly.
  • Visit the department as needed whenever:
    • Staff call for help/ clarification and additional resources
    • Patient complaint
    • New admission
    • Incident occurrence
  • Monitor staff performance/ practice and refers any observation to Nursing Manager/ Head Nurse in constructive manner for improvement purposes.
  • Complete Nursing Supervisor round checklist accurately and on time (appendix 1 & 2).
  • Attend and sort out all patient concerns / complaints to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Serve as Liaison between doctors/ other department staff and Team Leader as needed.
  • Reallocate and reassign staff to ensure adequate staff are available to delivering the expected Nursing care.
  • Work collaboratively in multidisciplinary approach to ensure continuity of care.
  • Monitor absenteeism and delays, report it appropriately.
  • Maintain confidentiality in handling patient and staff related issues.
  • Provide patient and family education as needed.
  • Administer medication as per doctor order and as needed.
  • Respond to code blue and other codes.
  • Participate in shift endorsement/ hand over as needed.
  • Act as staff and patient advocate.
  • Participate in education/ orientation nursing activities.
  • Participate in performance appraisal for the staff.
  • Precept in new appointed supervisor.
  • Participate in any accreditation/ reaccreditation process.
  • Visit critically ill and new admission patients.
  • Coordinate and arrange any equipment/ supply transfer, borrowing and return back with other HMG project.
  • Arrange pull-out within and out the project.
  • Prepare shift report and any other required report.
  • Attend the Nursing administration meetings and represent Nursing in certain committee as delegated by Director of Nursing.
  • Comply with the standards and perform duties necessary to support, achieve and maintain national and international accreditation.
  • Maintain excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
  • Undertake responsibilities as Head of department/ unit and Director of Nursing in their absence, as and when required.
  • Perform any delegated tasks/ duties assigned by Director of Nursing within realm of knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • 10-years experience in general hospital.

    • Enforces infection control protocols in all outpatient departments.
    • Liaises with Pharmacy and ensure that all patients are being given appropriate medications.
    • Oversees and monitor the delivery of Nursing Administration and act as patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality are maintained.
    • Monitors and ensure patient satisfaction and be proactive in managing any issue that is identified.
    • Promotes reflective practice and learning in order to ensure that nursing care is appropriate and based on patients’ needs.
    • Works closely with medical team to ensure effective patient management and ensuring that the specific consultant care protocols are followed.
    • Ensures a strict compliance to infection control prevention standard.
    • Maintains proper storage and keeping of all medications and high alert medication, ensuring strictly adherence to related policies and procedures.
    • Discusses and promotes innovations that will improve patient care.
    • Maintains the confidentiality in all aspects.


  • Nursing Administration:
    • Ensures that all policies, procedures, guidelines and work instructions related to the Nursing Administration are regularly reviewed and updated as required.
    • Prepares and review any needed departmental policy, auditing process, quality improvement project and implementation of the required action.
    • Manages the Nursing Administration efficiently, ensuring proper and effective utilization of the resources and equipment.
    • Ensures compliance with all approved policies/ rules and ensure the Nursing Administration meet JCIA/ CBAHI requirements.
    • Takes a lead with implementation any new service, policy and guidelines.
    • Ensures patient/ family satisfaction.
    • Investigates incidents, accidents, concerns/ near misses, complaints pertaining to the staff, ensuring proper correction actions and preventive measures.
    • Ensures that all objects, instructions and identified goal are documented, implemented and reviewed on a timely basis.
    • Ensures that all equipment in Nursing Administration are regularly maintained, repaired if needed or replaced on a timely basis.
    • Completes all required reports/ statistics and quality figures as needed on a timely basis.
    • Identifies and discuss with Director of Nursing – Ambulatory Care Services any potential areas for developing and area of high risk.
    • Reports to Director of Nursing – Ambulatory Care Services any issues or significance or concerns on a timely basis.
    • Conducts and attends meeting as needed and that minutes are circulated to all concerned staff.
    • Ensures and promotes the cost effective approach.
    • Effectively and closely monitors nursing practices to avoid malpractice can lead to financial loss.
    • Ensures stock levels are adequate and controlled by conducting regular inventory and proper tracking the record and consumption.
    • Ensures proper storage of supplies (medications/ disposable) and prevent getting expired before consumption.
    • Ensures Patient and Family education is provided.


  • Staff Management.
    • Undertake responsibilities as Acting Director of Nursing in absence of Director of Nursing.
    • Acts as a resource of specialist clinical knowledge and information for nursing staff and ensure the compliance to JCIA and CBAHI standards.
    • Exercises fair and firm leadership, establishing and maintaining high morale among staff.
    • Monitors the level and standards of work produced by the staff, guide, coach and advise them as appropriate.
    • Facilitates the professional development of the ward staff to ensure that they are competent to provide safe nursing care.
    • Identifies the training and learning needs of ward staff ensuring that mandatory training requirements are met and documented.
    • Maintains proper recording and tracking of staff status (licenses, training, competency, evaluation etc.) and act accordingly.
    • Maintains harmony and professional relationship environment.
    • Maintains proper record of staff attendance, leave and any staff related aspects.
    • Ensures all staff are aware of their job description and job expectations.
    • Completes staff rotas on a timely basis and ensuring appropriate coverage.
    • Follow ups and monitor new staff performance to ensure they are competent to provide the expected care.
    • Plays a role model in adhering to the policies/ rules and attendance and punctuality.
    • Assists in patient and family education.
    • Reviews performance of staff and perform counselling on unsatisfactory performance. In addition, discuss personnel and administrative issues and address and solve problems among staff.
    • Participate in, and lead person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
    • Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
Requirements

Education/ Professional Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Experience

  • Minimum of Twelve (12) years of experience ,Preferably have work experience in the Middle East.

Professional Licensing / Certification / Training

  • BCLS or ACLS, relevant certifications—Preferred
  • Saudi Council & Licensed from Country of Origin

  7. Remains available for students during their clinical training and gives them guidance, support and corrections while performing procedures.
  8. Acts as a role model for students.
  9. Conducts systematic observations and objective judgments on students’ performance.
  10. Gives each student timely feedback about his/her performance and provides suggestions for improvement.
  11. Enhances the effectiveness of clinical training by making himself/herself available for students' questions and learning needs in clinical area.
  12. At the end of each rotation, discusses the clinical evaluation with each student, and provides guidance for future performance.
  13. Provides suggestions for program modifications or improvements based on changes in the department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the field.
  14. Participates in committees, working groups and other initiatives as required by the College administration.
  15. Contributes to community service and extracurricular activities.
  16. Works in improving and updating knowledge and skills through participating in continuous academic and professional development activities.
  17. Other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.

Responsibilities for Nursing Assistant

Help patients with personal hygiene and care such as bathing, grooming, and dressing, and bowel and bladder care
Take and record patient vital signs and weight
Observe and record patients conditions, food and liquid intake and other behavior, and report changes to supervisor
Help patients walk with canes, walkers, or other devices
Make beds, and maintain clean and safe environments for patients
Lift, transport, and move patients using the appropriate techniques
Treat all patients, family, and other visitors with respect, and engage with them in a tactful manner at all times
Comply with all safety and health regulations

Qualifications for Nursing Assistant

High school diploma or GED preferred
Must hold current CNA certification in the state of practice
Prior work experience in a direct patient care setting or in a long term care facility preferred
Must be in good physical health to be able to lift and move patients, and to be able to walk or stand for long periods of time
Must be compassionate and personable
Strong attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments
Ability to handle emotional and stressful situations in a professional manner while remaining calm
