Your Job

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to oversee, maintain, and improve the mechanical systems of a vacuum-coated glass production line. The ideal candidate will have experience in high-vacuum systems, automation, and precision machinery. You will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical maintenance of vacuum coating equipment including magnetron sputtering systems, pumps, chillers, conveyors, and handling systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures on vacuum chambers, loading / unloading systems, and glass transport mechanisms.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for all mechanical equipment in the coating line.
  • Support production by minimizing unplanned downtime and ensuring maximum equipment availability.
  • Monitor equipment performance and participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for chronic mechanical failures.
  • Maintain documentation including maintenance logs, failure reports, and equipment manuals.
  • Collaborate with electrical, automation, and process engineers to optimize line performance.
  • Recommend and implement mechanical design improvements for reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and liaise with vendors for critical mechanical components.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in glass processing, coating, or high-vacuum equipment.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of vacuum technology (e.g., rotary pumps, turbo pumps, diffusion pumps).
  • Experience with HVAC systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and industrial automation.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of glass handling, coating line mechanics, and material transport systems.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work under pressure and in rotating shifts (if required).
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in glass coating (architectural, automotive, or solar) industries.
  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems.
  • Certification in maintenance reliability or vibration analysis is a plus.

In June 2021, Bechtel’s contract with the Royal Commission was renewed for another 5 years with work focusing on building new residential communities, iconic buildings/bridges, major site preparation, commercial buildings, mosques, schools, hospitals, sports facilities, clinics, universities, utility services and infrastructure (electrical sub-stations, lift stations), roads and highways, port & pipeline expansions, and more.

Job Summary

The Senior Field Mechanical Engineer (SFME) represents the Royal Commission, the owner, to ensure the safety and quality of the project are met. This work is accomplished by SFME’s review of the Contractors submittals for materials, work plans, safety plans, quality plans, procurement plans and RFIs for ongoing work activities. Provides an interface between RC Engineering and the Contractor to resolve technical issues. The SFME shall assist the Contractor in the writing and review of Technical Queries. Coordinates with survey teams to ensure work is constructed in compliance with project drawings and specifications. Coordinates with the Contractor to document all Mechanical field activities and performs regular inspections to check progress, quality and safety of the projects. The SFME shall work closely with the Resident Engineers to ensure the safety and quality standards of the project are met and provide an interface between RC Engineering and the Contractor/Subcontractors to resolve technical issues.

Major Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret contract documents and construction plans related to site development construction.

  • Provide guidance and technical advice to the contractor and field engineers to improve the quality of works.
Construction Audit
  • Conduct SMQE PFE-QE Quality & ESH audit/walk down for contracts and prepare QANs and technical progress reports, inspection reports and investigation reports.
  • Conduct quality audits for concrete crusher plant, batch plant, asphalt plant, precast factory and Laboratory and prepare corresponding reports.
  • Conduct technical site investigations, root cause analysis, interpret test results and prepare comprehensive reports.
Technical Review
  • Review and approve technical submittals, shop drawings, as-built drawings, traffic control plans and design packages drawings for compliance with RC requirements.
  • Familiar with ASTM and other standard specifications.
  • Check and review Technical Submittals TS, TQ, FCD, QAN, NCR, Punch list, IA, FA.
  • Check and review contractor’s monthly quality control report and develop dashboard and metrics to measure quality report effectiveness.
Construction Site Training
  • Conduct training workshops for ILT/Virtual ILT and Civil/Architectural/Structural discipline.
  • Provide hands-on training for mechanical discipline.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised University.
  • 10-13 years of relevant experience as a mechanical field/site engineer in the construction industry working on infrastructure projects.
